Hi, I am new to this website and well my g/f has 2 star tort's among MANY other reptiles and pets. She had a male tort for about 1 year and it is roughly 7 inch's long. A pet store knows how much she appreciates the tort's so they gave her a rescue tort to her to try and well rescue. She is around 4-5 years old and had a major respitory problems , was put on anabotics and is now at good health. The problem is abuot 1 week ago we found 2 eggs in there habitate. We are having a difficult time trying to find how to take care of the eggs. We want to know if we shold have heat on them / rotate eggs / remove them so the parents have 0 access? Any additionaly info would be greatly appreciated. PLZ leave ne thing here or email me at cichonppl@hotmail.com plz plz any experiance owners let me know what to do before it is to late thx so much everyone.

Indian star torts are great. Very beautiful animals. The eggs will have to be incubated for them to hatch. But that's only if they are good. If possible, see if can get a small penlight flashlight and hold up to the eggs in a dark room. If the eggs are completely dark, then they are most likely no good/unfertilized. There should be an air pocket on one end of the egg and the egg should 'light up' somewhat. Without knowing how long it's been since they were laid, it's hard to say what stage you should be looking for. It's also hard to explain candeling on the a forum. Let me see what I can find and I'll post again soon!

    General Info:

    From CentralPets:
The Star Tortoises breeding season is from June to October. The female will find a site and dig a nest to lay her eggs in. She may lay 8 or 9 clutches a year, and each clutch generally contains 5 to 7 eggs. If incubated at 85 degrees Fahrenheit, the eggs will usually hatch between 100 and 110 days.
