ok i fed him this morning and he ate two crickets and there still some in his cage do you think he will eat the crickets later.
feed him everday, I just leave a food dish in for my leo and he eats out of there, but then again I feed mealies, don't leave the cricekts in for too long though, usually people leave them in for 20 minutes then remove them because they usually eat what they can and in 20 minutes they are full....
yup, they will eat whatever they need, some people do 20 minutes in the early morning and 20 minutes late at night for juvi's.
ok ill try tonight to but he eats a cricket when i hold it and shake it on the ground but when i just let the cricket go the cricket runs rite past him and he turns and sees it but he doesnt go after it is that bad
That can be pretty typical of leos...unless mine are b eing fed roaches (which they looove!!!) they wont really chase after things. I often use tweasers to hold the food in front of them, or feed mealworms which dont run as fast as crickets
I order mine offline from www.blaberus.com - very reasonable prices. There are a variety of species - i personally keep Blaptica Dubia. They are perfect, in my opinion, because they do not climb glass or fly or jump, they are very hardy and easy to breed, and they dont move as fast as some of the other roach species - making them easier to catch.
It depends on if you just want to feed them off or if you want to breed them...if you just want to try and see if he likes them then i would order 20 or so...make sure you order small ones that will be ok for your Leo to eat. If you plan on breeding them then you should be 100-200
excellent! Mine love them too Order a few hundred and set them up so they can breed. For my breeding colonies i do the following: Set them up in 10gallon tanks with a small heat pad (the increased temps help them to grow faster and breed better), give them a bunch of torn up egg cartons, paper towel tubes etc. Give them a shallow dish (I use a plastic jar lid) with some roach food (you can order it from blaberus.com) some fish food flakes, a bit of oatmeal etc. Offer fresh veggies every few days for moisture. I also spray mine down daily with a misting bottle - they love this and will all come out and drink. If you want to breed i would advised buying the mixed size from blaberus.com - then when you recieve them, pick out the adults and put them in one tank, and put the "feeder" sized roaches in a separate tank. This way you can feed off the feeders and leave the roaches alone to breed. I go into my breeding colony about once a month and pick out some of the smaller babies and transfer them to the feeding colony. In my experience this works better than having them all in one tank because you dont stress your breeders out by messing up their house every day to pull out feeders. good luck!
