I use a pair of plastic tweezers to feed my Leo, they are blunt and gecko friendly, he grabbed them today along with the cricket and refused to let go.. I am wondering does he have teeth or just hard gums? Eliot xx
RE: Do gecko They do have teeth. Little teeeeny tiiiiiny ones, but they have them. I'm actually not 100% positive they are teeth, they may be a boney lumpy growth from the jaw, but they are there at any rate (I've read both, my vet says they are teeth).
RE: Do gecko Either or... I'm voting for teeth though... They use them to grab a hold of their prey and then swallow it whole, not really for breaking up food. Although I did have one bite me once, silly gecko didn't realize that she needed medicine! It doesn't really hurt, but you know they're trying to be nasty.
RE: Do gecko Like most other reptiles Leos do have teeth. Though very tiny, they are very sharp. Like Eire said, they don't use them to tear apart or chew their food but they're perfect for holding on to prey and creating small puncture holes. If an adult Leo has ever latched on to you you can definitely feel them and they can even draw blood.
RE: Do gecko I agree, I say they have teeth, and can draw blood if they get cha. But it doesnt hurt at all
RE: Do gecko I don't know about it not hurting, Cleo nailed me at the vet a few weeks ago, it sure didn't feel good but I've felt worse.
RE: Do gecko BSB could not be more right. I got sliced by an adult breeder rat at my work and I had to get 5 stitches on my index finger. It hurt sooo much.
RE: Do gecko I got bit by Caspian and it didn't hurt at all. I think he realized that I am bigger than him and let go quick. And a little off subject I saw a picture in one of my photography magazines of an anole biting the mouth of a rattle snake and holding it closed. It was hilarious.
RE: Do gecko This is from www.drgecko.com "Although leopard geckos do have small teeth, these teeth are not used for the degree of mastication that one sees in mammals for example. They usually end up swallowing their food whole, or at least in large pieces."
