    That sucks. If my mom had her way, I would'nt have a gecko, but my dad talked it over with her (I'm a daddy's girl :D )

    You can use a UTH with wood.. We do it all the time with boa cages. www.questcages.com has an entire business built round that fact. You have to keep it controlled with a thermostat but that should be an absolute given anyhow, no heat device should be used without a stat. If it's hot enough to burn wood it is way too hot for a reptile.

    I'm looking to build a similar cage, but with screening on the sides, as an outside enclosure for my beardie in the summer time. I wont leave him in there for the whole day only for 2-3 hours so he can get enough natural sunlight.

    Should I use similar slate tiles or will they get too hot in the sun?

    i let one air dry outside when it was about 80* outside and it felt real real hot

    Cage looks good. Remember to cover the wood if it is pine or cedar with polyurethane or paint. Your lights will have to go on top for best results and they will need some pearches up on the cool side and hot side about 6-8 inches from the lights.
