Vermiculite's ok for incubation... it doesn't have chemicals, but it doesn't pass through a reptile's system too good...

What kinda lizards do you have on it lizardguy?

I wouldn't use it for a beardy, or well, anything really. Most reptiles (especially beardies) have a tendency to lick everything - especially if it's a young beardy.

We've got ours either on reptile carpet (for everything under 12 months old), or a 50/50 enclosure which is about half carpeted, and the other half is a sand pit (washed playsand from Home Depot, NOT calci-sand).

Is reptile carpet just artificial turf? or is it specially designed for reptiles?

Nope, it's actual carpet... but it doesn't have the rubber lining underneath, so you can stick it in the washing machine to clean it.

We have two pieces for each tank, that way when they get dirty, we can just swap 'em out, and the tank floor isn't bare while the other one's being cleaned :)

Yeah, it's good stuff. We've been using it about a year or so, and it's great. Looks a lot better than paper towels or newspaper, easy to clean, and a lot safer than most particle substrate alternatives (sand, calci-sand, etc.)
