sand

    um i bought an ocellated sand skink. The guy told me to use sand and i did. i read and people say that sand is band . what substrate am i subosed to use because dont sand skinks hide in the sand and would rather be in sand.

    Joe.... with a sand skink, I would use sand, just make sure it is dried playground sand. This way it wont contain any glass. You may want to make it about 5-8 inches deep so it can burrow well. But if you dont want to use sand, there is a substrate called "Bed-a-Beast".... use that, but with that you need hot water to use it. Just read the directions for that though. If you do use it, make sure it is cooled off and somewhat dry, and this will need to be deep as well. Hope this helps

    thanks its just i dont want my lizard to die of impaction. i use play ground sand and he seems to like it to.

    sift the sand through some front screen door screening - that way you know you've only got the tiniest grains of sand. much less likely to impact.
