    there is no gradient to depend on for a thermostat probe to be placed on.

    Rinaldi, a lot of people that can't find good "wild" soil use a mixture is topsoil and play sand (in a 1:1 ratio). see how it works. ive never personally done it so i would like to know how it does.

    Why don't you just put a foot of dirt in the cage, and a flood light above the basking spot. Find out how high you need to hang it by using a temp gun, and we're done.
