Me and my dad are building a cage for my bearded dragons.

I bought the woredrobe at Ikea.
Is particle board or whatever the board is from Ikea its kinda shitty.

Im going to build doors on the front with 1 by 4s and mesh wire type.
I will take pictures of it will my cell when I work on it..

Should I paint the wood with anything? My dad said he would like to stain the would or use an oil finish?

    Any suggestions would be great.

Its going wire doors open in the middle type idea.
Should I put vents in it?Ceramic tile is going to be used

Great job so far Im doing the same exact thing as you but mine is a duplex consisting of 5 cages in one. Anyways you said you guys didnt have the right screws so if I were you I would get #3 2 1/2 inch long deck screws(@ homedepot), just remember to drill a pilot hole a little smaller than the screw or your wood would just split. Anyways looking good and keep up the good work B)

Oh and as for your vent questions, yes I would put those air vents that you could slide open or close, just in case herp need high humidity, anyways thats what Im using in my enclosure and seen it in MANY others.

    Hello

    Hello,

Those are good sized tanks for your dragons! Great to see you are almost finished with them now.
Are you going to stain them dark? The polyurethane will seal it really well & make it shiny.

    RE: Hello

Okay this is what we got done tonite.
Im just wondering if its worth it to buy a new floresent fixture and a light that hangs down with hallogen flood bulb.?
    What type of Poly Urthane?

I was thinking of staining it maple (dads suggestion) ??

    RE: Hello

Exterior Latex Paint is completely safe when dry. You can use a primer like ZAP or Kilz before you paint to help seal out water.

    RE: Hello

If you have a benjamin moore dealer close to you ask for a paint called Aura Its got a very very low VOC And perfectly safe for your dragon. If they dont have that Ask them for Washable matt Finish and if your goin to use primer Dont use killz Use a water base primer. From your benajmin moore dealer called fresh start or z-prime those I know for a fact there are safe for any animal.

Right, just to clarify, Kilz comes in both Oil and Water-Based Versions. Always use water-based products when you can.

Minwax or any other water based polyurethane would work.

benjamin moore actually carries some no-VOC paints not just low-VOC. all and all though I find it 10x easier to stain and use poly. Not to mention it's a much better sealer. Mind you you need more coats then its oil based brother but it's still the best solution out there.

    Thanks Ill check them out.
Is it worth it to buy new floresect fixtures and put them in there for my ubv tube?
And have a hanging hallogen flood light?

I have a ballast with the ubv tube Im not sure how I would mount that in there.

the burning point for wood is way hotter then any light could produce.
