just ordered 300 and 3 adult pairs so ill have 18 adult pairs to start off with from aaronpauling.com. and i ordered 2 ounces of water crystals because i hear these are easier to use.

but i dont have any egg crates/flats so what could i use for them to hide in alternatively? and what is the best stuff to feed them? crushed up dog food?

how do i keep the humidity up and should i use a heat pad for heating?

    Hi,
Have you been to the optician lately ???? :D ;) sorry joking.
Creating hides will be more difficult, have you a local store, not supermarket type, they may have eggcrates, if they sell eggs loose, are all yours over there sold prepacked..
Try a sheet of styrofoam (polystyrene) and dig a load of holes, hollows in it, that would work I think.

If it has lots of rough surface and cracks etc to lay eggs in, it may well work, trial and error, I'm afraid, I really dont know.

i thought they did live birth? by lay eggs do you mean expelling the sack thing before they bring it back in?

Roaches lay there eggs in an ootheca egg case... As Bruno said they need somewhere with rough texture and fairly dark/hidden (eg underside of an egg crate) to lay there eggs on. If you can get the corrigated cardboard (rippled layer of cardboard with 2 flat sheets sandwiching it) then you could maybe rip one of the sheets off and expose the ripply, rough inside sheet which if the cardboard is folder up to make hiding places would work for them to lay eggs on.
