    Hi people

right i have had a bizarre experience with some butterworms.

I have never bought them before until this week.

So i thought i should gut load them as we do with other feed.

I am currently using 'pro-reptile' GUT LOAD FORMULA.

I put the mixture as stated onto a shallow dish, but the worms didn't seems to find the food over 24 hours. I then opened up the butterworms 'nest' and put some of the gutload mix into it thinking they would feed on it.

But today i have checked them and they are all dead!!! most have gone black and seem extremely squishy!
It looks like a slug once salt has been poured onto it's back!

Have i done something stupidly wrong in the keeping of these butterworms?

What do people normally feed them?

it's annoying as they cost £5.00 and ddn't even use one!

    replies would be much appreciated.

    thanks

Every website I've looked at for buying butterworms says you don't need to feed them anything. Why this is I'm not really sure. It's the same with phoenix worms for some reason. I think it has something to do with the stage of life that the ones that are sold are in. As for why gutload caused them to shrivel up like that I really am clueless, but assuming all those websites are correct, you shouldn't need to feed them anything. Hope this helps for the future.

Yeah you're not supposed to gutload butterworms, they don't eat. Keep them in a container in you refrigerator to make them last longer.
