Here is my new arboreal enclosure with my new GTP inside...

The inner dimensions are 34x22x10. I currently have a medium-sized water dish at the bottom of enclosure (with a regular household heating pad underneath as a temporary measure in an attempt to create some humidity), and I mist inside several times a day...but if I'm away more than 6 hours the humidity drops down to 40%. The night temp has so far stayed right around 80 with just the overhead light on, and goes up to 85 during the day.

My main question is, what is the best way to maintain humidity...and then, what would be the most cost-effective way to maintain humidity? Should I go with a mister or fogger, or would a fogger lower the temp inside? Are those Zoo-Med foggers worth it?

    Please advise.

wow! that is a great setup! I don't know much about misters or smokers, but it seems that the mister would put out more water.

I think an automated mister or fogger would be your best option. I have two friends with the same problem as you. One of them uses a fogger, and as far as I know he doesn't have any problems with heat. If you want I can give him a call and figure out which brand of fogger he uses because I know the one he has works very well. My other friend actually built a waterfall on the inside of the tank, and that works excellent to keep the humidity up. That might be a little difficult for your tank, but it might be something to think about for the future. They look great as well.

I have a Zoo Med Repti Fogger and it's worth it...you still need to mist him every now and then with a spray bottle-to more simulate rain than fog. the fog also tends to make it colder sometimes, so make sure the heat is up, but all in all-it's a great product. Zoo Med had the best customer service out of any company I've ever delt with. I have one of their terrariums and the latch broke, so they sent me a new one for free and fast. I also know that the fans in the foggers can break, mostly if not used properly(like not cleaning or not using distilled water like instructed), but they'll send a free fan too if you just call. By the way, nice enclosure!!! :) The good thing about the foggers is you can adjust how much fog there is too, I would reccommend one and it's only around $50, maybe a little more.

Thanks, Michelle...good to know. Whats the run time on those before you have to refill the tank? I'm gone 16 hours when I'm at work.

It's reccomended not to run it 24/7, but I'm sure you'd get at least 36 hours-maybe just a day, but that's still enough :) and that's on high! It lasts me about a week before I had to refill it, I run it a few hours a day on high usually. Glad I could help! :D

Which one of your critters are you using your fogger on?

Two green anoles and a green tree frog-both high humidity, I'm going to start not doing it as much or on a lower setting though-since it's winter, the humidity stays longer, but in the summer, I'll use it a bunch! :)

    Thanks Lizardgurl...YOU ROCK!!

ReptiFogger works like a charm!! Hygrometer shows a constant 89% humidity while on LOW, and never drops below 77% in between running (digital timer set for 2 hours on, 2 hours off). Also, I saw NO significant decrease in ambient temp while on. So simple to set up compared to a misting system...drill the hole, stick the hose in...DONE!

la serpiente verde says "Thanks" too...
