While out and about I ran across some reptile stuff and picked up this retail display for $75 with all the stuff the previous residents used. I'm not sure what to do with this. Give me some ideas of what could be comfortably housed in this enclosure.....

One of the partitioned tanks had a BP shed in it but kinda small floor space for anything over 500g in that species. Gecko's maybe....

They had another a bit bigger and I wasn't sure if I would ever use it but from what I seen these Retail Displays go new for a lot more dosh so I couldn't pass it up and am pondering purchasing the larger one too.

Are the tanks permanently divided or could you open it up into one big tank? And what are the INTERIOR dimensions? i.e. how thick is the framing and glass?

The dividers are permanent and are about 1/4" thick so the interior dimensions of each cell is 14"D X 12"W X 18"H. This is manufactured as a store display.

That thing looks taller than 18" to me? Must be the angle you shot it.

I have been thinking gecko's actually, Had my eye on one in particular but it seems to be the pet shops pet. So many in the gecko family tree it's hard to decide and if I go that route I would need 4 of them to make the condo complete. :)

Wow for $75? That's awesome!!! Wish I had one.... can you deliver? :p Jk.

Lets see... 12x14x18 is 3024 cubic inches... which is 13.09 gallons... And it's more arboreal oriented... That would be pretty perfect for a single gargoyle, crested, or even a chahoua... might be a bit small for a chahoua but it would work :) Some of the smaller day geckos would go in there as well :) A tokay would work in there as well, but they're pretty mean so it would probably be a display only type of pet... decisions decisions! I vote gecko!
... although dart frogs would be pretty awesome! Is it glass or plexi/lexan? If you want dart frogs it would have to have pumps and such so you'd have to drill in to it... it would be pretty awesome though!

Good luck with whatever you pick! Keep us updated!

Viper Geckos! They're so small and epic! :p lol, I also saw some Barking Geckos at a reptile show before, I guess they're similar to leo's/fat-tails/and pictus(panther)geckos in caging requirements...I don't think they really make sound lol-I asked the guy there and he said that someone once heard one make noise supposedly :) They are a dark brown/black with yellow/orange spots if I remember and not that big, neither are Pictus(panther)geckos.

Wife wants dart frogs = you obey ._____.

Haha, but seriously, as long as you can rig up the equipment, dart frogs would be a good choice. Just make sure you stick with arboreal species since you have vertically oriented habitats. Other small tree frogs (let's say no larger than about 2.5 inches) would be fine as well. Just remember, only one species per section.

Like stiky said, small geckos would be another good choice, but only one per habitat. Small anoles would be okay, but I've seen some males get rather bulky, so it would be better to stick with females--again, only one individual per section.

Very unique setup and I can't wait to see what you guys come up with. =D

I'm beginning to lean toward what lizardgurll8 said. Gecko's!!! The little crested geckos are sooo cute big head and eyes with tiny bodies :) also loving the ones with blue on them cant remember there name. I love the color blue on them. Only draw back is we would have to find them. no one around here has those. We can get crested and leopard right now and we know were a female leopard is too. I haven't looked much on dart frogs. for breeding and such. I know the sell well were we are so do gecko's. If anyone knows were can get a breeding pair of the ones with blue on them let me or Supernova know. I have a feeling we may get them. So that would cover 2 of the spots not sure what to put in the other two :)

Are you talking about a blue gecko or a blue dart frog? If you're talking about a blue gecko you are most probably thinking of the Williams Dwarf Day Gecko - Electric-blue day gecko (
    Lygodactylus williamsi
    ) -
Dwarf size geckos would do perfect in that tank BUT they are pretty expensive and fairly hard to find (ok did a quick search and I found them ranging from $35 to $400.... )

Heh, here's a neat video care sheet... that's something new, lol.

You could definitely do a breeding pair of the Williamsis in one of the sections, but be forewarned that day geckos in general are more sensitive and demanding than other geckos, so they probably aren't ideal to start out with if you're just getting into the gecko breeding scene. Not to say it absolutely cannot be done, but just make sure you are well prepared for them if you do decide to get them.

The crested geckos are indeed very cute with their big head and huge eyes, aren't they? Just remember that you are dealing with a very small space here, so you wouldn't be able to have a breeding pair in that setup. A single cresty for show would be fine, though. Leopard geckos, on the other hand, need more floorspace than the sections of your display tank provide, so you should cross those off of your list of choices. Stick with the small arboreal species that others have suggested and you should do great. =D

There was a whole article on Electric Blue Day Gecko's(Williams Dwarf Day Gecko's)in the December issue of Reptiles magazine just to say :) They're pretty small-only getting about 3-4 inches, but they'd be a good size for that tank.

I looked at pics of them not what i want I'm thinking the leopard gecko that have blue on them. those are total cuties same with crested geckos. we have a few extra tanks around if that enclosure is to small for them. I don't know yet but if I go with leopards i want to try and get the ones that have blue on them. Just gotta get supernova to check them out more :)

Well, I have a Mack Snow leo morph-has some blue stripes and very blue around the eyes. Personally my faves are the lavender morphs :) purple-ish beautiful color! You guys should try to go to a show or expo soon and look at all the choices they have! If you haven't already been to them-which I'm sure you have at least a few times lol :p

Oh, that's too bad! :( ya, like you said-the one in Jan seems to be the only one through July at least-according to my newest issue of Reptiles magazine. and going to another state would be far-but, in surronding states I know Cali has a lot(but, it's a long state-so, they could be anywhere throughout)and Washington has some. I'm lucky that I have one about an hour away that is monthy-then there's 2 more-one a the bottom and the other in the middle of the state, while we're at the top. I hope to go to one of those, since they're pretty big, but even going to a surronding state might not be as far. Do you have any reptile specialty shops there? I've never been to one, but there's a few family based ones here that have a nice reptile section-though not as much selection as an expo at all and much more pricey  I know you can order offline, but I don't like to-since, you don't know the condition of the animal or it's behavior, etc. Though, sometimes the only way to get one is offline, but I'm nervous about it getting lost even(in the mail) lol :p Well, I hope you find what you want! :)
