my gecko isn't sticking to the glass, or skin, or anything smooth. she can hold onto stuff like shirts because of her claws. i've given her a bath/sauna and cleaned her feet and checked for stuck shed, and there isn't any. she eats cgd and occasional dusted crickets. she eats, drinks, and poops normally. so i'm not really sure what else could be wrong? any advice would be great. thanks, mel
Im far from an expert on cresties, but give her the sauna, than when you take her out, roll her feet with qtips, as much as you can, Im sorry i cant help much =/ Just i wanna try my best to help Anthony,
sounds like its probably stuck shed on the toe pads. try upping the humidity for a night or 2 and see if that helps
Normally I would say it would be stuck shed, but it looks like you have tried with the sauna/baths and cleaning her pads... I'm not really sure, that's usually the cause. Is she acting normally in every other way? Has she shed again since this problem started?
yeah, i've done the sauna and the qtips and i've kept the humidity up. right now she's just perched on her vine lookin at me, but when i take her out she's nice and active when she's not hiding in my hair moving, crawling, jumping onto things. she hasn't shed for a while, probably a few months. like two. gosh, i feel like such a bad mom. one of the girls i work with think's she's huge, but i think she's thin, but not like annorexic, just not as full as other geckos are. also, i'm going to weigh her tomorrow at work (been on a medical leave for 3 months and just getting back to work, so i cant buy a scale right now). she doesn't appear to have lost weight though, just not gaining any.
she's about 3 to 4 inches w/o her tail. i'm bringing her into my work tomorrow to weigh her. edit: she's 28 grams
I can't pretend to be and expert because I only got my Crestie a couple of months ago, He had trouble sticking at first and couldn't climb glass at all, After a couple of days though he started to get his grip back...within a week he was climbing all over the place, I'd recommend you just give it some time.
Is there any possibility that he or she has some type of oily substance in their tank? What do you clean the glass with?
I use natural chemistry healthy habitat cleaner. its an all natural thing. I was talking to some of my co-workers about it too, and I remember that my cousin was holding her one day near a space heater, and she decided that it would be a good idea to jump onto it... i think she may have burned her little toes. gosh I feel like a bad mom! That would cause non-stickyness wouldn't it? As for the not shedding in a few months, is that normal for a crestie her size/age to go that long?
That's the stuff I use actually, never had a problem so I doubt that would be it... And I think you're right, it's like a person who's burned their hands they may not ever get back their fingerprint, and essentially it's like a raised very very fine finger print that the geckos have... There's no set "schedule" to how often geckos shed except that they shed more often when they are growing a lot when they are young and slow down when they are getting to be of adult size... I would venture to guess that my geckos around that size (weight) were shedding once ever month to month and a half... but that's just my experience. Also I don't always catch when they are shedding, especially with my cresties b/c they eat it all so fast and they normally shed at night so... yeah, lol. I'd keep an eye on her weight and maybe give her more "things" to climb on like branches and textured leaves so she doesn't get so stressed that she can't hang out on the glass...
thank you so much for your help ! she has lots of plants and vines and branches to climb on. even when she was sticky, she spent most of her time in the leaves and stuff.
woo!! she shed, and now she has no issues sticking.. took her long enough. and now she has even more dal spots i'm wayyy too giddy right now
