I recently got a young savvy, he's approx. 12" from snout to the tip of his tail. Hes happy and friendly and loves eating, but when i got him i noticed he was missing a couple nails on each hand, and coincidently enough the same nails on each front hands are missing and the one on each back hands are the same. Like i said hes still young but i fear he may not grow the claws hes missing.

Can anyone offer me some insight?

If you got your Savannah Monitor from a place that kept a lot of the babies in the same cage, it might have gotten his ties nipped by other babies. Baby lizards can mistake toes for worms or other food or sometimes they're just mean. He could have even been born with a defect. Needless to say its harmles. As long as his nails are not falling off while you have them. In the long run you might be thankful he's missing those few claws be cause grown savannah monitors can do some damage. Not on purpose but by just holding on to you or climbing you. ouch! On the other hand always check your reptiles for ann their fingers and toes. Even the little babies are going to gave teeth and claws.

Most likely constricted tips of toes due to bad sheds because of too low humidity levels.
