I have several large snakes and decided that pre-killed rats would be better then live. I get them from a reptile store and they kill them there for me. Last week we got enough for everyone but my 2 biggest snakes didn’t want them. (They have been eating live so I guess didn’t like them already dead.)
    ANYWAY....
So the rats had been dead about 2 1/2 hours by the time I decided they weren’t going to eat so I put the rats in the freezer. I’d like to thaw them out now but is being dead for 2 1/2 hours before being frozen too long? Can it make my snakes sick?

    Hi,
It should be perfectly Ok to use them as they haven't been frozen before.
If they dont eat this time then I'm afraid you will have to dump them, DO NOT RE-FREEZE.
When you offer them wiggle them around and tap side of head to get it to strike, this often works.
Oh Yeah, dont forget to use feeding tongs, a warm hand at end of rat is very tempting, be careful.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and thawed them out. My ball python ate one but the bull snake wouldn't even look at it and I KNOW he's hungry. I disposed of the left over one and I'll be off to the reptile store tomorrow.
