I had tons of lively barely hatched baby crickets, then I slept over at a friend's house for one night, and when I got back they were all dead. All but maybe 15 were dead.

They were being kept in a proper facility, with lettuce and cricket gut load. By the time I got back the lettuce was dried out, so could they simply have died from dehydration?

What do you think killed them?

It is possible they dehydrated but there could be a number of other things.
Was there a sharp drop in temperature
Did the tank become very humid or the floor very damp.
These two are the main reasons for loss I think.
When I used crickets, I kept them in a 3ft fish tank with lid and used a 60w ceramic on a thermostat to keep temps around 80F and never really suffered great losses.
Something else you may wish to try, thats the watergel in a small pot with easy access, they cant drown in it and you have a constant water supply without humidity.
Just checked the link at top of page to ReptileSupply.com they have the Flukers Cricket quencher, which is stuff I'm thinking of.
    Hope this helps.

okay thanks. I'm pretty sure it wsa dehydration, as the lttuce leaf I put in there was completely dried out the day I noticed they were dead.
