Good question. For enrichment I play with my leopard gecko outside of his cage, Also I change the location of water and move stuff around in his cage. Also I give him live food like almost everyone else but this still gives him entertainment. However, I would like to add something else fun for him to do.

I just read about people that put their leopard geckos in hamster balls to allow them to roam freely. Wow.

leo don't like their surrounding to be change alot. My leo once poop in it's hide but since I move stuff around....it decide to poop outside in the corner of the tank now. If you move ur stuff around too much it will stress them.

As for my leo...i let it out and play on my hand and roam on my desk..of course I have to watch it or else it drop to the floor..

I'm just curious, where you had read that at. I had actually considered that once a long while back, but was afraid my leos toes would get caught in the air holes they put in those balls. That sounds like an interesting idea though, kind of curious if something like that would work okay.

I saw it on youtube. Im not sure the video but it looked pretty cool. I don't move my tank around too much but my gecko likes to explore. As animals are all different what may work for me may not work for you. I was talking with my friends at the zoo but they didn't have any other ideas. One other thing though my gecko's tank is on my dresser so he can see a lot of my room so he will watch me and my other pets.

Sorry if I sounded kind of mean but I was in a rush to go but I wanted to write a quick reply. With the hamster ball it was solid with a tight set of really tiny air holes in a small circle at one end. So I think that kept him from getting his toes stuck.

Changing your surroundings is fine regardless of what some people say. It gives them new places to explore and root around through which they all seem to thoroughly enjoy. The reason that your leo pooped outside of its hide is probably because that was where it pooped before you moved it's hide. They usually change their bathroom from time to time after a cleaning anyway. Moving stuff will not stress them out as long as they aren't in there when you do it. As for the topic though I take them out and let them roam around the room with a watchful eye of course. Also one day at the pet store I found this turtle outdoor cage and on warm nights in the summer I take them outside and let them play in the moonlight and hunt( gut loaded crickets not wild ones), they seem to reall enjoy this also. That hamster ball idea sounds really good though I'll have to check it out on youtube. Great topic!!! : ;)

I have been looking for a cheap playpen for my animals but if I have it outside then I think they might eat a fly or something that picked up pesticide, but I can't put it inside because there is no room. Yay, this is a cool forum. Enrichment is a really important part of the lives of any pet.

Check out Bigapple they have some nice ones, that are pretty reasonable. If they are fed before you take them out then you won't have to worry about that as they won't be interested in any food. Plus most have some pretty fine mesh wire so that nothing can get in/out anyway. If you want one or you leos remember they should only go out side at night because the sun light hurts their eyes and will stress them out.

Ok, I was also looking at the Exo Terra ones. They seam really cool like the explorer one.

Where is Big Apple? NY? Does it have a site?
Does any one know kinds of toys for leos?
Do you have a picture of your leo with the orange ball, that would make a cool photo.

Occasionally on cleaning days I will add new hides / decorations or move around things that Spikey seems to have lost interest in. I try not to move the items she spends a lot of time with because that seems to be an unnecessary stressor for her.

If she seems too restless we'll take her out to climb on the couch outside of her tank but that's a rare ocassion. Most of the time she makes her own adventure. She surveys her territory and seems to take an interest in the things going on around her. Action movies, our Wii, and pop/punk music (Sublime in particular) seem to get the most attention. Staring people down when they come out of the bathroom is another popular one of her pass-times. ;)

As for the great hamster ball debate (the question has come up numerous times in the past) I still say Nay. No matter the size of the holes, they are a danger to the gecko since our little buddies have very small toes and even smaller claws. Another concern is the size of the ball. We all know how acrobatic our geckos can be, but their backs are not meant to stay in the bent shape that it requires to move around in a hamster ball.

I wish I heard about that Big Apple site earlier because I just had a huge order from Petsmart.
